Tropical Storm Debby's Aftermath: How Savannah's Local Organizations Are Providing Relief
Hey there, neighbor! I hope you're staying safe and dry. We had quite a time with Tropical Storm Debby, haven't we? Our beautiful Savannah and Chatham County got hit pretty hard with flooding, and I know many of our friends and neighbors could use a helping hand right now.
If you're looking to lend some support, a few great local organizations are taking the initiative:
Our friends at the United Way of the Coastal Empire have set up a Rapid Response Disaster Fund, which you can contribute to if you have a few bucks.
Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is doing what it does best—ensuring folks have food on the table. They're collecting non-perishable food items and cleaning supplies. I bet we all have a few extra cans in our pantries we could share!
And you know the Salvation Army - they're always there when we need them. Their Savannah location is open 24/7 for donations. So, if you're doing a bit of decluttering or have some extra household items, they'd be glad to take them off your hands.
It's times like these that remind me why I love living here. We always come together when it matters most. Stay strong, Savannah!
Relief at the Pump: Georgia's Gas Prices on the Decline
Are you tired of wincing every time you fill up your car? Finally, some good news for Georgia drivers feeling the pinch at the pump.
AAA's latest report reveals a welcome trend:
Current average: $3.23 per gallon in Georgia
Weekly savings: 5 cents lower than last week
Monthly savings: A substantial 17 cents drop from last month
To put this in perspective, imagine filling up a typical 15-gallon tank:
You're saving about 75 cents per fill-up compared to last week
That's a $2.55 saving compared to last month
While it might not seem like much at first glance, these savings can add up, especially for commuters or families with multiple vehicles. Over a month of weekly fill-ups, you could be looking at $10 or more back in your pocket.
How does Georgia compare nationally?
- U.S. average: $3.44 per gallon
- Georgia drivers are paying about 21 cents less than the national average
