Top Savannah Streets to Steer Clear of During Severe Weather⚠️🚧🚧

The city of Savannah is bracing for an exceptional weather event this week as Tropical Storm Debby approaches the area.

In response, officials declared a local emergency on Sunday, August 4.

With heavy rainfall expected to cause potential flooding, the city advises residents to avoid the following streets:

  • Fairmont-Hanover-Hodgson

  • West Victory at Ogeechee

  • Goebel Avenue at President

  • East Gwinnett at Skidaway

  • West Gwinnett at Stiles (City Lot)

  • Whitaker at West 33rd

  • Abercorn from DeRenne to Victory

  • Habersham from DeRenne to Victory

  • Paulsen from DeRenne to Victory

  • Reynolds from DeRenne to Victory

  • Harmon from DeRenne to Victory

  • Bay Street, East of Fell/Brittany

  • Fell/Baker/Jenks from Bay St. to Augusta Avenue

  • Henry from Cedar St. to Waters Avenue

  • Atlantic at Maupas Avenue

  • President St. from Gen. McIntosh to Pennsylvania Avenue

  • Northbound ramp onto the Truman Parkway at Eisenhower.

  • Paulsen and East Park

  • 500 block East 36th St

Here are some alternate routes during the heavy rains:

  • From Downtown to Midtown: MLK Jr. Boulevard, 37th St., Bull and White Bluff, DeRenne Avenue, Abercorn Extension

  • From Downtown to Westside: I-516/Lynes Parkway

  • From Downtown to Southside: MLK Jr. Boulevard, I-16, I-516/Lynes Pkwy, Southwest Bypass/Veterans Pkwy, GA 204/Abercorn Extension.

  • From Downtown to Islands: Bay St., East Broad, Wheaton, Ash St., Anderson St., Truman Parkway, Victory Dr., U.S. 80 East.
    Georgia is the second state with the most counties (159), with Texas being number one (254).

Updates on road closures due to flooding will be posted at savannahga.gov/floodalert.

LOCAL WEATHER

Today - 🌦️ Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. 🌡️ High near 81. 🍃🍃Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Tonight - 🌦️ Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. 🌡️ Low around 76. 🍃🍃Breezy, with a southeast wind 23 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.
